WinAmp to Release 10th Anniversary Edition

Popular media player WinAmp is set to turn 10 years old and is celebrating with a new edition (v5.5). The beta is currently available for download and will be officially released on October 10th at 10pm (10-10-10).

New features include a “more like this” feature for generating playlists based on the music you enjoy, the ability to access your media via Wii, PS3, and Xbox, and integrated search features. Another interesting feature is a “media monitor” which detects songs on a web page and lets you add them to your playlists.

Now a part of AOL, WinAmp counts more than 60 million monthly active users. If you would like to try the beta, it’s available on AOL’s Beta Central site.

If Winamp had better support for the iTunes format, specifically in regard to proper udating of times played, ranking and active playlists, I'd go back in a heart beat, they have managed system useage far better then other media players...

I wake up this morning agreeing with all Hsool's post this morning wtf. Ok Again I have to agree. Although before I wouldn't actually cre about the number of times I played a song but now I do and that erks the hell out of me. I don't really care about the ranking since I never used the ranking playlist. This could be a huge boost for winamp although it still is the more use music player by techies.

I use winamp all the time at work. It's the best media source for me at work. I've also used it for years and am used to it's features.

If I could replace my itunes completely with winamp I would be the happies person in the world. Hell I would buy someone an ipod I would be so happy.

I love winamp, its my favorite music player. You can easily customize how it looks and it just plan works better then anything else with no hassles.

My Play lists are based on a combination of play count and how much I like the song, so songs I like more I hear more, but I hear them all eventually before I reset. I reset on average once every two months.

I don't even used the playlist. I just hit play. Keep it random, but there's alot of times I may still skip a song becuase I'm not in the mood for it but since I don't use playlist I never really have to ever look at the screen or use the wheel.

Where it's rare i actually find need to skip a song.

I don't know that I have used that in years. windows media player is what pops up when I listen to music outside of iTunes

Windows Media Player is default for most things. I never used that atleast not in a long time unless it was for a video.

Hoenstly most people don't. That's how microsoft main reason for staying in business. Windows has alot of system deefaults of their own stuff that alot of people don't look fo other software unless they need to instead of want to. Not saying that microsoft stuff is all bad but most people will think, well it already does it no need to look for something else.
