Finally (cue heavenly music and bright white spot light). Google has revealed its new program for nabbing pirated videos on YouTube as they’re being uploaded in an effort to appease major studios and content providers that have long complained of YouTube’s largely inefficient manner in which copyrighted content is continually uploaded onto the video-sharing network.

Here’s the catch (if it can be considered as much): content providers will have to first provide YouTube with a copy of the original, so that it can be used as a measure against incoming clips from users. Many content providers will be willing to do this, especially as it can also be used as a promotional tool. If NBC would like other users to be able to upload clips of SNL, they can do so. And this can be included in any ad revenue that’s split between YouTube and NBC. Now that’s one way of monetizing the community at large.

Developed in-house by YouTube, this is an image recognition tool that will be used for the video-sharing network. Disney, Time Warner and CBS (three of nine major partners that have tested the system) have reportedly said they are happy with the new system. Will this make Viacom happy? And what about all those other folks that have joined a class action lawsuit brought against YouTube–will this affect the court cases at all?

The new system could provide a great deal of general happiness by those who’ve complained about YouTube’s previous takedown methods, but I have a feeling that something regarding the initial stipulations of taking advantage of this new system will ruffle a few feathers somewhere down the line.

I think its just something to shut up maybe 25% of people and then alsomaybe stop about 5% of people from loading copyrighted stuff. Basicall just something for them to make money off of.
