Private school students banned from using Myspace….AT HOME!

A private school in Detroit called St. Hugo of the Hills is ordering their students to take down their Myspace pages or they will be removed from the school. Last week, a letter was sent home to parents saying that the school staff would be constantly monitoring Myspace in order to find students breaking this absolutely idiotic rule and supposedly, this is to protect them from the pedophiles that scour Myspace looking for hot 14 year old schoolgirl ass to lure into their vans with promises of candy.

What I want to know is how the fuck is this even legal? The kids are at their houses and the school cannot possibly have jurisdiction over them outside of the school. And of course, even if it is, the kids are gonna get around this so easily by making accounts in other towns and with different names.

The contracts on behavior a ot of those private schools have are usually pretty secure against challange since the perosn has to sign consent to that behavior (even if it's a guardian/parent)

From everyone I know that went to private school there wasn't anything like this. And there was tons of stuff like myspace, hell tons of people had AOL and GEOCITIES pages back in the days even me. I wonder if its still up lol. I think they just trying to play it more safe then sorry for the students.

The schools is just scared becuase its a fad right now. It is ignorance Se7ven but that's exactly what makes most people join myspace in the first place. You put a huge site up with little to no security and on top of that add a bunch of teenagers who just follow the leader what are you expecting. The school know the kids are proably stupid enough to everything about them on the site and can use good judgement while on computers their parents bought them. Really I don't blame the schools, parents dont teach their kids enough these days anyway, and leave everything to the school.

I'm not a parent so I really couldnt make a call on it. I had younger brothers and take care of my nieces but its not the same. But for the school to dictate on this, this is a choice of the parent not the school. That would be like schools being able to ground you, telling you can't date this person, can't eat or drink that.

This is one of the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard anyone come up with. But I have no doubt that it will be upheld, just like they have certain rules and regulations for athletes conduct at public schools...I would imagine that they would be stricter at private schools. These kids parents are paying for their education and more than likely signed some kind of contract at enrollment with different rules. Probably in the fine print but still, they probably left it open to where the school has the right to do this. Private schools get a big thumbs down from me...add this as another point in the negative column.

Quoting me almost word for word their SamiJo. All the rights in the world mean nothing if you consent them away, and I'd be surprised if the parents were not aware of the rules, to many it would just be another incentive for private education (don't want their little ones ever messing with the wrong kind of people and all that shit)
