Comcast sets traffic limit

US SERVICE PROVIDER Comcast has confirmed that it will limit subscriber traffic to a total of 250 gigabytes per month. The draconian restrictions are slated to be enforced by October 1.

An official statement claimed the company had "listened to feedback" from customers who requested a "specific threshold for data usage". According to Comcast, the new traffic limit will, "help [subscribers] understand the amount of usage that would qualify as excessive".

The service provider also noted that the bandwidth cap was set significantly higher than the median monthly usage of 2 to 3 gigabytes. To illustrate its dubious claim, Comcast reckoned that a user could download 125 standard-definition movies per month before exceeding the limit.

Im liking it, it will slow down some piracy. and increaseign bandwidth speed would be nice to counder the cap for some people.

I miss them days, im still at 1500 music videos. man i could have doubled that by now. but i also ned a larger HD, still at 220GB total. but a upgrade is comming soon with a extra cheque comming soon.

well still Raven I mean I play online games with my PS3 and I sometimes host an online game and even though I'm online all day I still hate the fact that now there's going to be a restriction or limit to the amount of internet service I use, that's just plain fucked up on Comcast side

I feel the same way but its a limit you more then likely never get close to. That would be like setting the speed limit to over 150mph. Most cars can't even get that high so its not like it would impact something that its diffult to get to.

lol shoot watch I betcha i could if I strap on some nitros on my car and some rockets like a cartoon from Looney Tunes lol I would set up that sofa with a rocket engine and break that limit , but I know what you talking about, its just that I hate that fact they have to put a restriction on internet use though I mean its not like its gonna blow up in their face if they don't have a limit right?!

I'm sure they put a limit on there becuase someone was abusing it, opssibly setting up a whole slue of internet sites hosted on thre computers hosting files for people to down. transfering all day long possibly.

They set the limit to restrict people pirating (which tends to inflate your usage) and hosting/file serving which are against EULA. They also chose a limit that is almost impossible to go over legally

Yeah but still its like limiting the amount of water you're drinking or something, yeah you won't go over that limit but I'm always playing games online and having that restriction kinda puts a bind on things if a LAN party goes beyond the set limit

What game are you going to play that would get you even close to that limit Even UT doesn't even do that. 3 people playing all day long on the same connection will barely get 1GB and that inclused downloading a new map everytime.

The US is suffering a massive drought and imports billions of litres of water from Canada every year, also refining Oil eats up massive amounts of water here, fresh drinkable water is a limited resource (desalinizing sea water makes the water prohibitively expensive for the average consumer, think Water World)

Well its not just one game I play, usually on the weekends I'm hosting for friends on Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 or COD 4 and WoW among others but mostly we are on the first 2 for hours, but I'm not saying that I'm going to reach the limit, all I'm saying is that it sucks knowing that there is one and if I do reach that limit then it will be by some miracle won't it , and see I never heard about water being limited to, shit what's next?? the food???
