The Horror… The Horror: MTV to Remake Rocky Horror

Variety reports that MTV is planning on remaking cult classic Rocky Horror Picture Show. Sigh.

The network is planning on using the original screenplay (which, btw, is based on the stage musical) but may add songs. They’re hoping for a Halloween 2009 television premiere, but that’s not definite. No cast has been announced, which means there’s plenty of time for rumors to fly. Undoubtedly some will suggest star of the original Susan Sarandon’s daughter Eva Amurri to take over Sarandon’s part because people tend to think that kind of thing is cool, you know, keeping it in the family. Some people, that is.

Awww crap not again, uh well if I were them I would stick with the original and not try to remake it again, just leave it like it is which is a classic

IIt was a good movie but even the original I could only watch twice before getting on my nerves. MTV will make even unmentionable.

I'm surprised in todays redo everything entertainment industry that it took this long, and honestly the only thing that will surprise me about the movie is it's actually good.

There's been way too many remakes of the same thing. Batman, Hulk and now this, no one has original ideas.

A constant complaint of my own I'm sure you may have noticed, I think Hollywood no longer takes chances because things are so much more expensive, so there is a lot more money on the line if something bombs, so stay with remakes of what people liked, at least getting first time watchers once, hopefully enough to pay for before they can trash it to their friends, that or sequels and rehashes.

Yeah that's true but at least this last Batman Movie that just came out was pretty good I was hooked on it like crazy especially since Heath Ledger who played the joker did an awesome job too, but yeah like Hsool said a while back its all about the franchise and money

You never never seen it? Well it's an old classic, nothing great but at its time it was really different then usually stuff, actually proably kinda so so.

Not it can still be done, it's just harder and more expensive with less guaranteed returns (look at the indie scene in music and movies). Media corporations are more addicted to money then quality and originality of product.

Yup and the only movie that hasn't been remade yet is Hellboy, they just have an original and a sequel but thats about it

Oh there are tone of movies that have yet to be remade, which is unfortunate cause that's a lot of fodder for the remake machine

yeah that's true dude, but you know what since you said that I betcha one of those special people(Executive Producers) in Hollywood is gonna go "Oh I just thought of a wonderful idea", "Let's redo Ghostbusters like TMNT all digital" or something like that and sure enough we'll see it again at the movies
