| Fined Six Thousand and Five Hundred A Vietnamese teen-ager has a new name -- after nearly two decades of ridicule over the old one. The 19-year-old's father has changed his son's name from "Fined Six Thousand and Five Hundred." The name represented the six-thousand-500 dong the man was forced to pay for ignoring Vietnam's two-child policy. Dong is Vietnam's local currency. Officials say the man gave his son the name in a fit of anger. In 1999 government officials tried to get the man to change the name because classmates were consistently picking on the boy. But the man refused. They recently appealed again, and this time the man agreed to the change. The son's new name means "Golden Dragon." Until recently Vietnam used tight family planning measures to prevent families from having more than two children. | |||
