| Today is World Jump Day Scientific research has proven that this change of planetary positioning would very likely stop global warming, extend daytime hours and create a more homogenous climate. A perfect scenario for rock climbers? Scientists from the ISA/München (Germany) have published a report, which confirms that planet Earth could be driven out of its current orbital rotation by the combined force of human beings jumping. Prof. Hans Niewsard and his colleagues at the Department of Gravitationsphysik estimated that it would take a minimum of 600 million people on the western hemisphere to jump at the same moment. So far there are 599 181 063 jumpers registered (per 19.07. 5.35 pm). So today’s major project could be in jeopardy. In any case: For a person to jump off the surface of the Earth, Newton´s Third Law guarantees that the Earth will feel a reaction force equal and opposite to the force generated by jumping. This then to an excellent approximation cancels the impulse of the force generated on impact. The only effect of 6 billion jumping human beings will be lots of sore kneecaps and a few stress lines in concrete all over the world, and the earth´s days changing ever so slightly in duration. | |||
