Pornography can have debilitating effects on communities, marriages, families, and children. During Protection From Pornography Week, we commit to take steps to confront the dangers of pornography.

The effects of pornography are particularly pernicious with respect to children. The recent enactment of the PROTECT Act of 2003 strengthens child pornography laws, establishes the Federal Government's role in the AMBER Alert System, increases punishment for Federal crimes against children, and authorizes judges to require extended supervision of sex offenders who are released from prison.

We have committed significant resources to the Department of Justice to intensify investigative and prosecutorial efforts to combat obscenity, child pornography, and child sexual exploi-ta-tion on the Internet. We are vigorously prosecuting and severely punishing those who would harm our children. Last July, the Department of Homeland Security launched Operation Predator, an initiative to help identify child predators, rescue children depicted in child pornography, and prosecute those responsible for making and distributing child pornography.

Last year, I signed legislation creating the Dot Kids domain, a child-friendly zone on the Internet. The sites on this domain are monitored for content and safety, offering parents assurances that their children are learning in a healthy environment. Working together with law enforcement officials, parents, and other caregivers, we are making progress in protecting our children from pornography.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim October 26 through November 1, 2003, as Protection From Pornography Week. I call upon public officials, law enforcement officers, parents, and all the people of the United States to observe this week with appropriate programs and activities.

i dont care about porn, but when it comes to child pornograpghy, thats the limit. there are some real sickos out there that get out to that. i just dont see why. but with adult porn, it wont bother me, i dont really watch much porn. i liek to make my own porn.

I don't agree with the drastic measures being taken here. I don't agree with child porn, it is sick and sadistic, but porn as a general rule is protected by the constitution. I agree with the amber alert system and prosecuting individuals who even view or create child porn. The fact still remains it is the parent's responsibility to govern what their kids see and do. Its their responsibility to spend time with them and watch their activities. Its a sign of non responsibility when they create dot kids. I kind of like the fact that you can have different etensions, but noone should be "forced or even coerced" into this form of gestapoism.

For Everyones information there is an actual form of child porn legal in the United states. Its Art photography and stills of these nude girls and boys. Its called Lolita Art or other various names. If your so hot and bothered you should make waves to illegalize that form.

But we as Americans have a duty to defend our rights, as the government will walk all over them if we have dumb sheep for a society, which I have noticed is the case in the last decade or so.

I agree Crimson Shadow78, I think that it is up to a partent o be a parent and to there jobs to prtect there child from harm and that includes any kind of child pron or any violation to a childs person by a sick fuck... If parents would take more time out of there busy day to see what it is that there kids are doing on there net and who there kids may be talkin to there may not be so many kids fallin pray to sickos out there.. I think that there dot Kids is a good thing.. Give kids some kind of freedom to be on the net without the risk of someone huntin them, but a child no where no how is 1 hundred % safe with someone to watch over them, such as a parent..
