I’m really not up to date on the clubbing scene in North America(due to a total lack of dancing skills and an unwillingness to pay $6 per shot), let alone the scene in Britain and Rotterdam. So I had no idea that a dance floor that generates power has been out for over a year in Rotterdam and recently made it to the UK.

As the graphic above shows you, the dance floor absorbs the movement of the dancers and uses springs and crystals to create piezoelectricity, which powers the bar. The British eco-friendly club is called Surya and is in the King’s Cross area of London. It was built by property developer Andrew Charalambous (who also goes by the moniker Dr. Earth) and his company Club4Climate.

The floor is not the only method the club uses for power as it has wind turbines and solar cells. Any excess energy will be transported to private homes in the area.

hmm interesting, a dance floor that powers homes, I like it especially since here in Houston, people go clubbing Wednesdays through Saturdays, if they do bring that idea here it would be something to see

It's nice to see people thinking outside the box on becoming ecofriendly, and that they are willing to shell a few extra dollars on the initial investment.

dude just imagine if the same people take this approach to the video game consoles and they make a DDR video game with platform dance controllers that do the same lol and the energy would go to the owner's own house, it would be interesting to see that too

I think it'd take more then a few DDR control mats to light up a house, hell the electricity used by the console would probably be all it could generate. It's interesting to note how much peoples electricity consumption on average has gone up over the last decade. People need to get out more, and do less energy dependent things, or break the usage up by doing things in larger groups, so it's all more efficient.

that's because we got more technology to enjoy than before , I know I'm at home enjoying my Bose Home Theater system when I'm watching a game, I feel like I'm actually there when I can't go , but yeah that's just one example

Just as bad here, but really we need to reduce our dependence on electrically demanding items until we come up with a environmentally sound way to make enough electricity

yeah but you know the politicians, all they say is that its to much money and blah blah blah, but yeah that would be a good idea to find other ways to produce electricity more environmentally friendly
