Well its a pretty wierd question but very understandable why Sony leads. First take into account the main 3 systems out there.
Nintendo Gamecube
Sony Playstation 2
Microsoft XBOX
Cost - Nintendo leads with a price of only $99.
Library - Sony leads overwelming since you can play all PSOne games on the PS2.
Community - Sony leads online play with paying a subcription
Control - Much debate but overall Sony has a better, smaller, lighter controller
System - Sony leads again. Only system that plays DVD movies out the box
Support - Sony's a little over Microsoft, both improves their system. Nintendo don't update
Developers - Sony leads again since more companies are license to make games
Sharing - Sony again. Memory cards smaller and sleekish.
From those facts alone you can definitely see why Sony leads any game market. Microsoft comes with 1 new exciting game maybe every 2-3 months. Nintendo only tailors to kids and young females (don't get mad its true). Microsft no doubt will always have better graphics in their games but you don't have much to choose from and the games aren't that good. Game qaulity sells over graphics, don't belive me, remember just about everyone on this planet has played Tetris for hours, not much anything as simple as that game.
NOW
Here's the main reason why Sony leads the game market. And until Microsft and Nintendo get wise to this they will lose as far as consoles. Dreamcast was one of the most popular systems out there for only 1 reason THEY HAD THE SAME GAMES THAT WERE IN THE ARCADE. If you have games that people can see in arcades you will have a successful console. Go look in any arcade in a mall or anything else. Write down the name of each game in the arcade. Now take that list and see which are available on which console. Sony and the Sega Dreamcast will have the most.
